German cockroaches are the pest we get the most calls about in the Northern Suburbs. They are small, light brown and quick, and they hide in the warm gaps behind fridges, dishwashers, stoves and the motor housings of kitchen appliances. You mostly see them at night, when you switch on the kitchen light and they scatter. Larger American and Australian cockroaches turn up too, usually coming in from drains, subfloors and garden mulch.
The crew we book starts by finding where they are living. They check the hinges of cupboard doors, the back of the fridge, the gaps around pipes and the edges of the oven. The treatment is then matched to what they find. For German cockroaches that usually means gel baits placed in cracks and hinges, with a growth inhibitor to break the breeding cycle. For the larger kinds, the outside of the home gets attention too.

Empty the cupboards under the sink and around the stove before the crew arrives, and wipe down greasy surfaces. Leave the baits in place afterwards, since cockroaches carry the bait back to the rest of the group. You will likely see more of them for a few days as they come out and die off.
